There is but one Truth

The word “TRUTH” gets tossed around a lot these days.

Politicians use it when they are trying to convince us that their favorite agenda item is for our own good. Mass amounts of data and statistics are compiled (and often distorted) to support their version of the truth.

Lawyers and judges speak about truth when they try to present the facts about their court cases. Witness statements, crime scene evidence, and the law itself are all used in an effort to reach a conclusive, truthful verdict.

Preachers and ministers are called to “speak the truth in love”as they declare the whole counsel of God. They are (hopefully) driven by the words of Jesus, who when praying to the Father said: “thy Word is truth”. [1]

With all of this truth being spoken, presented, argued for, and declared, one would think that people everywhere love the truth.

Nothing, however, could be further from the TRUTH.

While all of us may love our own version, or interpretation of the truth, the fact is that our human nature rebels against any truth that causes us to examine ourselves in the light of scripture. I run into this regularly when I remind someone who tells me they are a Christian that they cannot possibly be a lover of Jesus while simultaneously advocating the murder of unborn children.

Sorry, but the last time I checked, the word “Christian” still meant Christlike. I find no evidence in all of scripture to support the premise that Jesus Christ advocated the killing of any person. Of course, if the ruling of the U.S. Supreme Court trumps the Word of God in a person who declares themselves to be Christian, I can see where they would think that their views are compatible with Biblical Christianity.

They would be wrong, but I get it.

Of course, this is not a new revelation. Men and women have always been rebellious when confronted with the often uncomfortable truths of God’s word, a fact traceable all the way back to the garden of Eden and those rebels named Adam and Eve. Seems that TRUTH wasn’t something they were interested in at the time either. [2]

History has shown that this is the example that all of humanity would choose to follow. The truth, often being painful and convicting, is sacrificed on the altar of convenience so that we, like our “garden-abiding” ancestors before us, can have it our way. Oddly enough, it would appear that we humans are all too willing to swallow a lie rather than choke on the truth.

In all seriousness, that many would believe a lie rather than accept the truth is evidenced by the Apostle Paul’s stern warning that this would be the impetus by which the whole world would accept the antichrist. [3] This partly explains the insatiable desire we seem to have to place people in positions of authority who will tell us what we want to hear, irrespective of the truth.

These are dangerous, deceiving times that we live in. The sheer volume of lies being tossed about today make it difficult to separate them from the truth. This is exactly why there must be a standard for truth, a standard by which every thought can be measured. A standard that is defensible, irrefutable, and perhaps most importantly, uncompromising.

At the end of the day, there is only one Truth that fits such lofty criteria. This truth is contained in a book that is likely to be found in a great percentage of American homes. This book is acknowledged as the best selling of all time. You may have heard of it, for it has a very familiar title…

The Bible.

There is but one Truth. It has stood the test of time, and will stand when this world is on fire.

My prayer is that all will desire this Truth.

Have a blessed day everyone!

The politics of evil

Evil

adjective
profoundly immoral and wicked

Evil appears in many ways in American society today. Whether we categorize it under different headings such as murder, various kinds of abuse, organized crime, or any number of extreme acts of violence, evil abounds in America.

There is one type of evil however that exceeds any of the aforementioned types. This evil is so diabolical as to stagger the imagination. Not only that, it is openly flaunted by millions in this country as their highest example of freedom, liberty, and the power of choice.

This evil has become a type of sinister litmus test in determining one’s political affiliation. Get on board and you are “in”. Resistance is futile however, and will banish any detractor to the category of Right Wing Neanderthalism.

This profound evil not only has a name, but it is endorsed by the full power and authority of the United States government. So powerful is this evil that it has managed to withstand a continual onslaught of legal challenges to its existence.

What is this ‘profoundly and immoral’ evil?

It’s name is ABORTION, and if the current crop of Democratic presidential candidates has its way, this evil is about to take a quantum leap to a level not imagined by any current or previous abortion proponent.

A recent article in the New York Times entitled “On Abortion Rights, 2020 Democrats Move Past Safe, Legal, and Rare” gives us an insight into just how deeply entrenched the evil that is called ABORTION has embedded itself into our culture.

The Times article notes that the presidential hopefuls are embracing what they call “far-reaching” abortion extremism by supporting abortion positions that most Americans disagree with. Most candidates, it seems, want taxpayer-funding for elective abortions, and few support any restrictions on abortion in the third trimester.

So in other words, the fact that most Americans disagree with these extremist abortion positions means nothing. Not only does it not matter that most don’t agree with their positions, these politicians want you and I to pay for them as well because if you are opposed to such an abomination, you quite simply don’t matter.

It is unconscionable that a nation who purports to believe in God could have arrived at such a dark place. Yet here we are, and the truth is that not only have we fallen from the pinnacle of idealistic morality, there are those among us who declare we should be proud of this!

Consider the recent statement from Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, who claimed that supporting the killing of unborn babies for any reason up to birth is something candidates should be proud of.

“They’re setting the tone that this is something we should own proudly, and not just react to when something happens,” Hogue said.

They(the current crop of Democratic presidential candidates) are setting the tone for all of us that killing children in the womb is something we should proudly “own”. Let that sink in for a minute. We should give honor to these people because they are setting the tone for us to proudly “own” the murder of the innocent.

Well, there is one part of Hogue’s diatribe I can agree with. We will “own” this, and we will answer for it when every one of us stands before a righteous God. That includes those who stand in their pulpits every Sunday, belching forth their latest sermonette replete with a myriad of jokes and pleasantries, all while never daring to warn the sheep of the impending destruction that awaits.

“Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you: Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead”. 1st Peter 4:4,5 KJV

I don’t know which is worse. The fact that these candidates do not want any restrictions on abortion, or that these candidates actually invoke the name of the Almighty in their speeches.

Actually, this is further proof of just how deeply Satan has ingrained himself in the psyche of American culture. That we could “own” such a heathen practice as abortion while still claiming to be “Christian” is undeniable proof of the following texts:

For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.  2nd Cor. 11:13,14  KJV  emphasis mine

While America is embroiled in bitter division over whether or not the boogeyman (aka Donald Trump) has committed impeachable offenses, the devil is busy at work right under our noses in an all out assault on the collective morality of this nation.

The evil that is abortion has proven to be the single greatest weapon in Satan’s arsenal against America, for it has served to undermine the foundation of our Christian heritage. Think about that, would you?

America has survived a Civil War that came close to destroying her. She has survived two World Wars. She has managed to come through wars in Korea and Vietnam. She is still engaged in conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

It is clear however that the enemy that will eventually conquer America will not come from a foreign power. No, the enemy that will be our undoing is alive and well right here in our midst. It is an enemy more powerful than any nuclear weapon or any army of soldiers.

It is the enemy of…

Evil

adjective
profoundly immoral and wicked

Can a virgin forget her ornaments,
Or a bride her attire?
Yet My people have forgotten Me days without number.  Jeremiah 2:32  NKJV

Because My people have forgotten Me,
They have burned incense to worthless idols.
And they have caused themselves to stumble in their ways,
From the ancient paths,
To walk in pathways and not on a highway,   Jeremiah 18:15  NKJV

We have but one hope America. Either we return to God with a repentant heart, or we continue the downward slide into oblivion.

May God have mercy on us.

Bloodlust

Note: this post was originally written immediately after the Dayton and El Paso mass shootings back in August of this year. I have resisted publishing it until now because of its tone, not wanting to add to the overall anger and frustration of the moment. What is interesting to me personally is that I feel just as strongly about this as I did nearly a month and a half ago, especially in light of the most recent shooting at a high school in Santa Clarita California.

Bloodlust: an uncontrollable desire to kill or maim others.

Did you know that so far this year there there have been more mass shootings in America than days in the year?

As of September 1, which was the 244th day of the year, there have been 283 mass shootings in the U.S., according to an article published on CBS.com that cites data from the nonprofit Gun Violence Archive (GVA), which tracks every mass shooting in the country. [1]

Crazed gunmen are everywhere it seems. Dayton, Odessa, Virginia Beach, and El Paso are just some of the most recent locations where mass shootings have occurred. Geography apparently offers no barrier to those intent on slaughtering innocent people, as evidenced by the random locations of these tragedies.

Each new incident brings with it a new round of shock, outrage, and horror that such atrocities could be occurring virtually ’at will’ in America. With sickening frequency, TV news reporters, film crews in tow, show up at these grisly scenes to give us an ‘up close and personal’ look at the carnage.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, politicians take turns demonizing one another in an insidious effort to absolve themselves of any guilt derived from their inability to at least slow down the pace of these massacres.

Seemingly devoid of all common sense and reason, these inept ‘leaders’ can not muster up enough concern and compassion to lay aside their partisan politics in order to at least try to do something other than point their fingers at one another.

We are a nation awash in the blood of its citizens, gunned down on a daily basis while those elected to ‘protect and defend’ sequester themselves safely behind the well protected doors of Congress.

Perhaps this is more telling than we want to admit, for their actions are indicative of people who have thrown in the towel, possessing neither the courage nor the decency to acknowledge their failures. Political suicide, don’t you know.

Strange, isn’t it, that the Congress of these United States of America is so hell bent on impeaching a President that it will scarcely give more than lip service to the fact that the citizens it has been elected to SERVE are being slaughtered under their watch.

I fear that the awful truth is that we are a nation that has come to love bloodshed. I fear that our collective consciousness has been so ‘seared with a hot iron’ that we can never again be a peaceful and loving nation that values all human life.  [2]

How else can we explain such unabated mayhem?

All of this is not unprecedented of course, after all history does tend to repeat itself doesn’t it? I am reminded of something the Lord said to his servant Jeremiah nearly 2600 years ago when it became apparent that Israel would not permit the Lord to rule over them.

A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land; The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?   Jeremiah 5:30,31

The word “wonderful” here is more accurately rendered ‘astonishing’, as in an “astonishing and horrible thing…” Those who purported to speak for the Lord spoke only lies, thus leading God’s people even further down the path toward destruction.

Those entrusted with the care of the soul of the nation were no longer leading the people according to God’s commandments, but after their own sinful desires. Does this not sound eerily familiar to you today?

Incredibly, the people loved it this way. They loved the idea of permitting someone else to be responsible for the religious aspects of their lives, while they themselves sunk to new lows.

God ends this warning by asking Israel when it’s all said and done, who will you cry out to for help? Who will come to you and save you from yourselves?

Isn’t that the cry of America today? We are drowning in blood, the blood of innocent children gunned down in our streets and our schools. Who will save us from ourselves? Who will right these wrongs?

As if all of this senseless killing wasn’t bad enough, we must add to the carnage the blood of tens of millions of babies slaughtered in the womb, and now outside of the womb. Unlike unlike gun shootings however, this genocide draws not even a whimper from the politicians, Hollywood, or the media.

Do we honestly believe that a Holy God will hold us guiltless for this? Are we so drunken with the blood of the innocent that we cannot understand that judgement is soon to come, and indeed has already begun?

How is it that tens of millions of Americans dare call themselves “Christian”, or Christlike, yet support political candidates who heartily endorse the murder of unborn children? Is there even one person on this planet that can show where Christ is in alignment with such debauchery?

This may sound harsh, but it needs to be said and I will not remain silent on these issues. We have become like the wild beasts of the fields who have developed a taste for human blood. Laying aside their natural tendencies they have turned to consuming something they were never created to consume.

Bloodlust: an uncontrollable desire to kill or maim others.

I’d say that just about sums it up, wouldn’t you?

Please be in prayer for our nation. There is no other hope for America.

Ron

And we wonder why….Part 1

The recent massacre of 17 children on Valentine’s Day in Parkland Fl. has turned my thoughts once again to the plight of America’s children, and the ever increasing dangers they must contend with in a society rendered (seemingly) helpless to protect them.

Though this most recent mass shooting occurred about three weeks ago, I have purposely delayed writing this series of posts until now in order to clear my head and heart of the emotions I’ve been contending with as a result of this tragedy.

Parents and average citizens alike are outraged, as well they should be, that yet another mass shooting has taken place in one of our schools. The senseless, cowardly attack on our children has once again left our nation grief-stricken, searching for answers.

Searching for someone, or something to blame.

True to form, whenever a tragedy of this magnitude takes place, the inevitable call to do something about guns, particularly guns such as the AR-15 rifle, soon follows.

Of course, it is understandable that grieving parents would lash out at what they perceive to be the primary cause of why they must now bury their child.

Who wouldn’t?

Also true to form, the moments after such a tragedy find our elected representatives on both the Left and the Right politicizing the event, as if the murder of seventeen innocent children were some sort of sick, twisted, political football to be tossed back and forth.

How sick and perverted is it when the people we elect to represent us cannot lay aside their differences in the face of such a tragedy, and come together in the spirit of unity and compassion for the betterment of the nation?

No offense, but if this doesn’t cause you to feel outrage, you should have someone check your pulse.

Surely one would hope that the cries of anguish from a broken-hearted mother would be able to break through the self-imposed impasse that prohibits having a reasonable, rational discussion among the stakeholders.

You think?

Some say it’s the fault of the NRA, or the Congress. To others it’s the fault of the President. Depending on which side of the political pendulum you swing from, it’s either the fault of the Conservatives or the Liberals.

None of which is completely true. Rhetoric rarely contains more than a thumbnail of truth, after all.

You see, when we don’t know what to do, we look for a scapegoat. For those of you unfamiliar with the word scapegoat, it comes from the Old Testament book of Leviticus.

On the Day of Atonement, the sins of the people were ceremoniously placed upon a goat called the “scapegoat”, who was then released into the wilderness to wander.          Scripture reference Leviticus 16:5-10

When our children are mercilessly slaughtered, our righteous grief and anger demand that we affix blame; hence we look for our own version of the Levitical scapegoat.

And who could blame us? Sins of such magnitude stir within us the desire for revenge and justice. Someone must pay! Someone must be held accountable!

Barring an unforeseen turn of events, the murderer of the 17 kids at Stoneman Douglas High School, confessed killer Nikolas Cruz, will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

But does that bring any of those children back? Does a lifetime sentence for Mr. Cruz mean the end of school shootings in America? The answer I’m afraid is NO to both questions. Let me explain why I believe that.

Our nation is drowning in violence, hatred, and evil, and as a nation there is no longer a life preserver of righteousness or morality for us to grab hold of. This is the path that we have chosen, despite those who would say otherwise.

We have systematically removed the one Source from this nation that is capable of defeating the evil that is upon us. Indeed, our “Life Preserver” has been tossed overboard without us. Consider the following:

  • We have outlawed public prayer nearly everywhere. Heaven help you should you want to open a public meeting with a moment of prayer.
  • The ACLU has made sure that the Baby Jesus can’t show up at the town square at Christmas.
  • Football coaches are forbidden to pray with their students before game time.
  • The Ten Commandments have been removed from our courtrooms.
  • Christians who denounce SIN are now denigrated as haters.
  • The Supreme Court of the United States has ruled that the fundamental right to marry is guaranteed to same-sex couples by both the Due Process Clause and the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States.
  • The names of God or Jesus cannot be used least someone become offended. Of course, if you want to use those names in a curse, then no harm, no foul.

And we wonder why we’re killing one another?

We’ve removed GOD from America, and what has He been replaced with?

In Part 2 of “And we wonder why”, I’ll share with you just one of the things that has replaced God in America. I’ll also show you some startling facts about the efforts taking place to steal our children’s innocence, and the devastating effects it is having upon them.

Until then…
