The politics of evil

Evil

adjective
profoundly immoral and wicked

Evil appears in many ways in American society today. Whether we categorize it under different headings such as murder, various kinds of abuse, organized crime, or any number of extreme acts of violence, evil abounds in America.

There is one type of evil however that exceeds any of the aforementioned types. This evil is so diabolical as to stagger the imagination. Not only that, it is openly flaunted by millions in this country as their highest example of freedom, liberty, and the power of choice.

This evil has become a type of sinister litmus test in determining one’s political affiliation. Get on board and you are “in”. Resistance is futile however, and will banish any detractor to the category of Right Wing Neanderthalism.

This profound evil not only has a name, but it is endorsed by the full power and authority of the United States government. So powerful is this evil that it has managed to withstand a continual onslaught of legal challenges to its existence.

What is this ‘profoundly and immoral’ evil?

It’s name is ABORTION, and if the current crop of Democratic presidential candidates has its way, this evil is about to take a quantum leap to a level not imagined by any current or previous abortion proponent.

A recent article in the New York Times entitled “On Abortion Rights, 2020 Democrats Move Past Safe, Legal, and Rare” gives us an insight into just how deeply entrenched the evil that is called ABORTION has embedded itself into our culture.

The Times article notes that the presidential hopefuls are embracing what they call “far-reaching” abortion extremism by supporting abortion positions that most Americans disagree with. Most candidates, it seems, want taxpayer-funding for elective abortions, and few support any restrictions on abortion in the third trimester.

So in other words, the fact that most Americans disagree with these extremist abortion positions means nothing. Not only does it not matter that most don’t agree with their positions, these politicians want you and I to pay for them as well because if you are opposed to such an abomination, you quite simply don’t matter.

It is unconscionable that a nation who purports to believe in God could have arrived at such a dark place. Yet here we are, and the truth is that not only have we fallen from the pinnacle of idealistic morality, there are those among us who declare we should be proud of this!

Consider the recent statement from Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, who claimed that supporting the killing of unborn babies for any reason up to birth is something candidates should be proud of.

“They’re setting the tone that this is something we should own proudly, and not just react to when something happens,” Hogue said.

They(the current crop of Democratic presidential candidates) are setting the tone for all of us that killing children in the womb is something we should proudly “own”. Let that sink in for a minute. We should give honor to these people because they are setting the tone for us to proudly “own” the murder of the innocent.

Well, there is one part of Hogue’s diatribe I can agree with. We will “own” this, and we will answer for it when every one of us stands before a righteous God. That includes those who stand in their pulpits every Sunday, belching forth their latest sermonette replete with a myriad of jokes and pleasantries, all while never daring to warn the sheep of the impending destruction that awaits.

“Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you: Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead”. 1st Peter 4:4,5 KJV

I don’t know which is worse. The fact that these candidates do not want any restrictions on abortion, or that these candidates actually invoke the name of the Almighty in their speeches.

Actually, this is further proof of just how deeply Satan has ingrained himself in the psyche of American culture. That we could “own” such a heathen practice as abortion while still claiming to be “Christian” is undeniable proof of the following texts:

For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.  2nd Cor. 11:13,14  KJV  emphasis mine

While America is embroiled in bitter division over whether or not the boogeyman (aka Donald Trump) has committed impeachable offenses, the devil is busy at work right under our noses in an all out assault on the collective morality of this nation.

The evil that is abortion has proven to be the single greatest weapon in Satan’s arsenal against America, for it has served to undermine the foundation of our Christian heritage. Think about that, would you?

America has survived a Civil War that came close to destroying her. She has survived two World Wars. She has managed to come through wars in Korea and Vietnam. She is still engaged in conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

It is clear however that the enemy that will eventually conquer America will not come from a foreign power. No, the enemy that will be our undoing is alive and well right here in our midst. It is an enemy more powerful than any nuclear weapon or any army of soldiers.

It is the enemy of…

Evil

adjective
profoundly immoral and wicked

Can a virgin forget her ornaments,
Or a bride her attire?
Yet My people have forgotten Me days without number.  Jeremiah 2:32  NKJV

Because My people have forgotten Me,
They have burned incense to worthless idols.
And they have caused themselves to stumble in their ways,
From the ancient paths,
To walk in pathways and not on a highway,   Jeremiah 18:15  NKJV

We have but one hope America. Either we return to God with a repentant heart, or we continue the downward slide into oblivion.

May God have mercy on us.

Why we must resist spiritual pride

Pride is one of those things that all of us possess in one form or another. Having pride in one’s appearance, taking pride in a job well done, or being proud of your children are all different types of pride that are looked upon as favorable.

Having a sense of pride however that borders on arrogance and superiority are not thought of as admirable traits, as most of us are not drawn to individuals possessing them.

When those traits creep into the church they lead to spiritual pride, or thinking too highly of ourselves. When we allow such pride to overtake us, we become unreasonable, rigid, self-serving, and see ourselves as nearly infallible. This does not reflect the nature of Jesus Christ.

For the Christian, this is a very dangerous place to be in because we become hardened to the Spirit of God. We are no longer malleable in the Masters hands, having convinced ourselves that “I’m in complete control, not God”.

Additionally, any Christian, especially one in leadership who operates under the guise of “it’s my way or the highway” is headed for a fall because the scripture makes it clear that “God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble”. [1]

When those in church leadership positions allow spiritual pride to enter their hearts, they seek honor for themselves and not God. Under the cover of their position or title they exalt themselves (the creature) instead of the Creator. [2]

You may be thinking that this is an extreme example, but I can assure you that it is not. As a matter of fact, there was a time in my past when I found myself in this very predicament, and I don’t think I’m too far off by saying many of you have struggled with this issue at some point in your life as well.

All of this matters because God has a divine plan for each of our lives, a plan where there is no room for a “haughty spirit”. [3] Part of that plan is to mold and shape us so that we conform to His image and not our own. God calls this a “transformation”, which the Apostle Paul spoke of to the church at Rome.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2  (emphasis mine)

When we become a born again Christian, a mighty transformation begins to happen in our lives. Because we live in this world and are a product of its ways, thoughts, and practices, this ‘conforming nature’ has to go if God is going to have his way in our lives.

In order for that to happen God has to first chip away at the “world” that has enveloped all of us. How does He accomplish this? This is accomplished when we are placed on the potter’s wheel as mentioned in Jeremiah. [4]

As the Lord deals with us and we begin to grow in our relationship with him, the transformation becomes visible for all to see. In essence, we are not the same person we were before we found Jesus. Old things pass away, all things now become new. [5]

During this process we must take care not to become spiritually proud and to think more highly of ourselves than we should. Again, the Apostle Paul speaks to this as well.

For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. Romans 12:3 (emphasis mine)

Paul is warning us here not to over-estimate ourselves. Don’t allow pride to enter your heart and cause you to become puffed up in your own eyes. This is a clear warning to be mindful of the dangers of spiritual pride.

We must not judge ourselves by our talents, our title, or our position in the church. Instead, we should measure ourselves by our Christian character. If Christ has been at work in our hearts, our character will be transformed, just as our minds are being renewed.

Anything less is not acceptable.

Be blessed, in Jesus name!

Bloodlust

Note: this post was originally written immediately after the Dayton and El Paso mass shootings back in August of this year. I have resisted publishing it until now because of its tone, not wanting to add to the overall anger and frustration of the moment. What is interesting to me personally is that I feel just as strongly about this as I did nearly a month and a half ago, especially in light of the most recent shooting at a high school in Santa Clarita California.

Bloodlust: an uncontrollable desire to kill or maim others.

Did you know that so far this year there there have been more mass shootings in America than days in the year?

As of September 1, which was the 244th day of the year, there have been 283 mass shootings in the U.S., according to an article published on CBS.com that cites data from the nonprofit Gun Violence Archive (GVA), which tracks every mass shooting in the country. [1]

Crazed gunmen are everywhere it seems. Dayton, Odessa, Virginia Beach, and El Paso are just some of the most recent locations where mass shootings have occurred. Geography apparently offers no barrier to those intent on slaughtering innocent people, as evidenced by the random locations of these tragedies.

Each new incident brings with it a new round of shock, outrage, and horror that such atrocities could be occurring virtually ’at will’ in America. With sickening frequency, TV news reporters, film crews in tow, show up at these grisly scenes to give us an ‘up close and personal’ look at the carnage.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, politicians take turns demonizing one another in an insidious effort to absolve themselves of any guilt derived from their inability to at least slow down the pace of these massacres.

Seemingly devoid of all common sense and reason, these inept ‘leaders’ can not muster up enough concern and compassion to lay aside their partisan politics in order to at least try to do something other than point their fingers at one another.

We are a nation awash in the blood of its citizens, gunned down on a daily basis while those elected to ‘protect and defend’ sequester themselves safely behind the well protected doors of Congress.

Perhaps this is more telling than we want to admit, for their actions are indicative of people who have thrown in the towel, possessing neither the courage nor the decency to acknowledge their failures. Political suicide, don’t you know.

Strange, isn’t it, that the Congress of these United States of America is so hell bent on impeaching a President that it will scarcely give more than lip service to the fact that the citizens it has been elected to SERVE are being slaughtered under their watch.

I fear that the awful truth is that we are a nation that has come to love bloodshed. I fear that our collective consciousness has been so ‘seared with a hot iron’ that we can never again be a peaceful and loving nation that values all human life.  [2]

How else can we explain such unabated mayhem?

All of this is not unprecedented of course, after all history does tend to repeat itself doesn’t it? I am reminded of something the Lord said to his servant Jeremiah nearly 2600 years ago when it became apparent that Israel would not permit the Lord to rule over them.

A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land; The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?   Jeremiah 5:30,31

The word “wonderful” here is more accurately rendered ‘astonishing’, as in an “astonishing and horrible thing…” Those who purported to speak for the Lord spoke only lies, thus leading God’s people even further down the path toward destruction.

Those entrusted with the care of the soul of the nation were no longer leading the people according to God’s commandments, but after their own sinful desires. Does this not sound eerily familiar to you today?

Incredibly, the people loved it this way. They loved the idea of permitting someone else to be responsible for the religious aspects of their lives, while they themselves sunk to new lows.

God ends this warning by asking Israel when it’s all said and done, who will you cry out to for help? Who will come to you and save you from yourselves?

Isn’t that the cry of America today? We are drowning in blood, the blood of innocent children gunned down in our streets and our schools. Who will save us from ourselves? Who will right these wrongs?

As if all of this senseless killing wasn’t bad enough, we must add to the carnage the blood of tens of millions of babies slaughtered in the womb, and now outside of the womb. Unlike unlike gun shootings however, this genocide draws not even a whimper from the politicians, Hollywood, or the media.

Do we honestly believe that a Holy God will hold us guiltless for this? Are we so drunken with the blood of the innocent that we cannot understand that judgement is soon to come, and indeed has already begun?

How is it that tens of millions of Americans dare call themselves “Christian”, or Christlike, yet support political candidates who heartily endorse the murder of unborn children? Is there even one person on this planet that can show where Christ is in alignment with such debauchery?

This may sound harsh, but it needs to be said and I will not remain silent on these issues. We have become like the wild beasts of the fields who have developed a taste for human blood. Laying aside their natural tendencies they have turned to consuming something they were never created to consume.

Bloodlust: an uncontrollable desire to kill or maim others.

I’d say that just about sums it up, wouldn’t you?

Please be in prayer for our nation. There is no other hope for America.

Ron

[1] The GVA defines a mass shooting as any incident in which at least four people were shot, excluding the shooter.

America: which will it be?

7 “The instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, to pull down, and to destroy it,

8 “if that nation against whom I have spoken turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I thought to bring upon it.

9 “And the instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it,

10 “if it does evil in My sight so that it does not obey My voice, then I will relent concerning the good with which I said I would benefit it. Jeremiah 18:7-10 NKJV

Yes, we do have a choice in the matter. The decisions we make as to whether or not we will follow God or man directly impact whether or not God chooses to bless or bring disaster.

One thing is for certain, disaster is looming, and there is only one way to avoid it.

We as a nation would be wise to reconsider our ways lest God relent of the good he has decreed for us.

The Sounds of Silence in God’s House

Have you ever felt grieved over something you cared deeply about, but had no control over? Lately, I’ve been feeling this way, like someone who just stepped out of the pages of the Old Testament.

Like Jacob of old, I have wrestled with the Lord over this post because I know as soon as it is read, I will be branded a critic of the Church. Unlike Jacob however, I have given up trying to hide my feelings any longer and admit that I am defeated.

Let me explain.

Whenever it became necessary for the Lord to deliver a message of correction to His people Israel, often He would raise up a man or woman and instruct them to go to the people and deliver the message. We refer to these servants as Prophets.

These Prophets are scattered throughout the Old Testament. Some we have labeled as “Minor Prophets” while others are called “Major Prophets”. All of them were called of God for a specific task and season in the history of Israel.

Of the many things these Prophets had in common, one was that they all shared a burden for God’s people. They bore this spiritual weight in their hearts because the people loved the pleasures of sin more than they loved God.

Oftentimes, as in the case of the Prophet Jeremiah, the magnitude of the weight they bore would reduce them to tears and cries of anguish. [1]

While I am certainly no Prophet, I can empathize with them because of something amiss among God’s people today. In fact, if I dwell on it too long, I become almost grief stricken. What is it that has me feeling this way?

It is the sound of silence in God’s house.

It is the realization that the church no longer desires revival; thus, she no longer travails in expectation of a new awakening. Rejecting the call from above to “come out from among them” [2], she has decided instead to align herself with the world, and in the process has rejected the Lord of Glory.

There is no longer a sound of weeping and anguish in the house of God over our spiritual barrenness, and the sound of this silence is deafening.

The church of Jesus Christ has married the world and thus has come under its spell. In doing so, the church is now more impacted by the world than the world is impacted by the church. Who can deny this truth?

We have sold our birthright.

I grieve because the church no longer wants God, but rather has discovered a way to carry on without Him. Remove the Holy Spirit from the church? No problem, hardly a soul will notice as we carry on with our regimented programs disguised as religion.

In our efforts to appease the masses, we have compromised all that made us unique, and our birthright has been auctioned off on the altar of pragmatism. We have copied the error of ancient Israel, who rejected the Almighty in favor of a flawed and imperfect king. [3]

I am distraught over the absence of Holy men and women of God, those who have been in His presence and now carry with them the burdens of a people gone astray. Where are those who have heard His voice, who have received the clarion call to sound the alarm and cry aloud for the church to return to its former glory? How long will they remain silent?

Incredulously, in the span of but a few generations the church has become little more than Sunday morning entertainment. Impassioned, God-inspired, soul searching sermons have given way to polished speeches that have more in common with the mantra of positive thinking than they do with the Word of God!

Instead of preparing our hearts for an encounter with the Holy One, we have created a sterile, guilt free environment where our hearts will never be pricked, and our conscious will remain unseared.

This environment is better suited for a coffee house or a nightclub, places where one never need concern themselves with being confronted with the sin that permeates their life.

We dim the lights and crank up the sound system in our efforts to mask the reality that we no longer walk in the Spirit, therefore we are resigned to manufacture a spirit of our own. The cheering thousands are proof enough that we have found the right formula.

Never mind that weeping and anguish of soul are no longer found in God’s house. The church now exists to make us feel good about ourselves, and all who enter its doors have entered a “Guilt Free Zone’. We have created a safe place where sin is never acknowledged or confronted. Come as you are and leave as you came.

We do not want revival. We do not want a return to the old paths. We do not want a fresh revelation from God as to the pitiful condition our souls are in. No, we want none of things because if we did, we would have them!

If the church wanted revival, it would have revival. It would pay any price in order to once again be endued with power from on High. But the church does not want revival because to have it means she would have to divorce herself from the harlot, worldly system it has aligned itself with.

The church is not inclined to return to the old paths, where the good way was [4]. To do so would force us to choose whether we will be hot or cold. To return to the old paths would force us from our lofty seat on the fence of mediocrity and lukewarmness, and we are quite comfortable there, aren’t we?

Instead, we want to be like the world in nearly every respect, while still calling ourselves “Christian”, and we will stop at nothing to accomplish this goal.

What has this illegitimate marriage given us? It has given us a parade of sexual predators in the church that has left untold thousands broken and bleeding in its wake.

It has given us a litany of ‘wolves in sheep’s clothing’ [5] disguised as clergy who reject the teachings of scripture in order to cozy up to the world, thus allowing every conceivable and base lifestyle to stand in the pulpit and declare their own twisted version of ‘truth’.

It has given us an anemic and sick substitute for Christ’s church, the very church He bled and died for. What is supposed to be His Body has been rendered powerless to stem the tide of sin and degradation that has enveloped it.

Such a church has forfeited its birthright and is no longer Christ’s representative on the earth. It is a counterfeit, and the deafening silence from within its lukewarm walls is proof enough that she is in danger of being rejected by the Lord. [6]

May God have mercy on us…

Ron

Who’s really in control of YOU?

No doubt you’ve heard the expression “one step forward, two steps backwards”.

Have you ever really thought about this statement? What does it say about us?

I think it says that we are trusting more in our own abilities than we are the Lords.

It says for all the world to hear that we are controlling things, or at least we are trying to. And when we try to be in control, our progress is always being hampered by US. We get in our own way and make a mess of things.

Hence, we take “one step forward and two steps backwards”.

Of course, being a human being carries with it a certain “issue”, one that we all have, which is that we really like to be in control don’t we? The thought of someone, anyone besides ourselves calling the shots is, for the most part, unthinkable to our carnal nature.

C’mon, admit it. You like to be the one calling the shots don’t you? I know I certainly do! We all have this compelling need within us to take charge of the situation and bulldoze our way through it.

But what about when our own capabilities, talents, and skills leave us on the wrong side, or short of the goal?

More often than not, we go backwards don’t we?

Did you ever think that maybe, just maybe, those two steps backwards was where the Lord wanted you to stand and be still for a time and a season? That maybe He wasn’t ready for you to move forward just yet. Or that YOU weren’t ready to go forward yet because there were still lessons to be learned ‘back there’?

There is a verse in the Old Testament that talks about standing still and seeking out the old paths. Perhaps you are familiar with it?

Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.   Jer. 6:16

Israel had a terrible time with simply walking in the place God had called them to walk in. Seems they always had a better idea, or so they thought. If ever a people was known for taking “one step forward and two steps backwards” it was the children of Israel.

So prevelant was their penchant for backsliding that in the long history of Israel, only two little words are necessary to sum up their predicament. These two little words say it better than an entire library full of scholarly works.

If Only.

If only they would have listened. If only they would have followed the Lord instead of trying to take charge themselves. If only they would have stood by the Lord and asked for the old paths, where the good way was.

If Only.

The whole of human history has been one gigantic battle of “If Only”, and that includes you and me.

If Only we would have listened to the warnings of the one who had already walked where we were about to tread.

If Only we would have sacrificed and taken our children to church when they were still young, instead of either taking them to the lake or soccer practice or worse yet, permitting them to do whatever they wished to do.

If Only

Who’s really in control of your life? If we’re honest, that’s a very easy question to answer isn’t it? As long as we continue to take “one step forward and two steps backwards”, the answer is obvious.

The question then becomes are we willing to give up control in order to gain rest for our souls as the Lord desires us to do?

Something to think about on this Lords day.

Be blessed, in Jesus name.

Ron

What will you do in the end?

Those are the words spoken by God through His servant Jeremiah concerning the impending destruction and captivity of Judah.

The book of Jeremiah was written between 585-580 B.C. (approximately). Roughly 2600 years ago, the prophesied Babylonian siege and captivity of Jerusalem was about to commence.

Unable to find a man who executed righteous judgement or who sought truth, God was bringing His own judgement upon the nation of Judah because she had utterly rejected the Lord.

The sins of Judah and Israel were great and many.

  • They had refused correction (verse 3}
  • They refused to return unto the Lord (verse 3)
  • Their backslidings increased (verse 6)
  • They committed adultery (verse 7)
  • They had lied about the Lord (verse 12)
  • They prophesied falsely (verse 13)
  • They had a defiant and rebellious heart (verse 23)
  • Their houses were full of deceit (verse 27)
  • They would not plead the cause of the fatherless (verse 28)

Sound familiar?

These (and many more) are the reasons why God was going to use the Babylonians as His instrument of correction in the hope that Judah would once again return unto God.

So exasperated was the Lord with His people that He declared:

“An astonishing and horrible thing
Has been committed in the land:
The prophets prophesy falsely,
And the priests rule by their own power;
And My people love to have it so.
But what will you do in the end”?   Jeremiah 5:30-31

“But what will you do in the end”?

I believe the Lord would ask this same question of America today. Now that we have rejected Him in nearly every way possible, what now?

What now, now that we are killing babies right up until the time of birth?

What now, knowing full well that it will not stop there? We have “progressed” from abortions at the beginning of term to now killing them in the instant before they draw their first breath outside of the womb.

This lust for killing and savagery is unparalleled in the history of man. The only thing close to this level of barbarism is the Nazi war machine and it’s stated goal of genocide against the Jews and other undesirables of Europe.

To be sure, our politicians and financiers of such demonic activity use much more discretionary tactics than did the brutal SS of Hitler’s regime. The results, however, are the same: annihilate those deemed unwanted, unloved, unfit, or unworthy to live.

All decided of course, by the degenerate, sadistic, and morally bankrupt individuals who are now running this country.

Only a fool, or those who have willingly buried their heads in the proverbial sand, could say that America today is any different than the Judah and Israel of 2600 years ago.

It is a farce to hear the song “God Bless America” today. We would have the audacity to ask for God’s blessings when this nation has turned into a killing machine of the innocent?

So, the question that must be asked is “what will you do in the end”?

When God withdraws completely from America, what will you do?

When God turns a deaf ear to your cries, what will you do?

When God refuses to send the rain, what will you do?

When our cities are on fire, and no amount of police protection is enough to keep us safe in our homes, what will you do?

Will you cry aloud to the gods who have murdered the innocent?

Will you make your petitions known to those who place no value on human life, especially the innocent and unborn?

What will you do in the end?

I’d say you would be wise to figure it our today, because the end in coming, and it’s not going to be pretty.

“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”. Joshua 24:15
