There’s Hope,then there’s HOPE!

Hope,I really love that word because it speaks of having something to look forward to.It speaks of turning the page,of a new day with new opportunities.

We all have hope of some kind don’t we? Some of us hope for things, some of us hope for relationships, and still others of us hope for a better life altogether.

My wife and I even started a ministry called H.O.P.E.!

I think hope is something we all have to one degree or another.Granted, life can be challenging to the point that we feel that all hope is lost, yet God remains faithful even in the darkest of times.I don’t remember who said it, but someone stated that hope is being able to see that there is light in spite of the darkness.Love it.

In this world today many are questioning “where is that light”,for all that seems to take center stage is darkness. The senseless murder of innocents is increasing at an alarming rate throughout the world, and the pleas of the religious to stop the violence go unheeded.

Unquestionably, the hearts of many have become hardened to the point of unfeeling or uncaring. And it will get much worse.

Jesus said it would be so in the time in which we now live.

Yet…hope remains strong in the hearts of those who have placed their trust in the Lord Jesus. Not just any kind of hope, not just a maybe someday kind of hope. But a hope that is alive!

You see, there is one reason and one reason only why we have this kind of hope and it is summed up in one word:

Resurrection

For it is through the Resurrection of Jesus Christ that we are able to lay hold on this hope.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,   [1Pe 1:3 NKJV]

Peter and the rest of the disciples understood that though they had suffered the loss of everything dear to them and had become social outcasts because of their faith in Christ, the faith that carried them from day to day was a living hope.

They had the kind of faith that was alive because they knew that their Lord was alive. And that hope is available to all of us today because Jesus is still alive! He is still alive and He is still offering that living hope to a world lost and headed for Hell.

That living hope is still the driving force that keeps us going through unspeakable tragedy.Hope that is alive is hope that will sustain us beloved! The tempest may blow, the storms of life will rage, our world will be rocked, but that living hope will see us through it all.

But there are those…

How sad that men and women choose to live out their lives not knowing that there is something beyond this life that is far better than anything they could ever imagine. The Apostle Paul said that if all we have hope for is in this life we are miserable!

If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.    1Co 15:19 KJV

If you are reading this and you can say that you are without hope,or that your only hope is in this life,I invite you to consider Jesus the Living Hope.

He is the way maker when there doesn’t seem to be any other way.He is the peace speaker in the middle of the raging storm. He is the One and only One that can be called the difference maker.

He is alive, and He offers to all a living hope through His resurrection!

Have a blessed Easter,

A Post Easter Observation

Yet another Easter has come and gone and Christians all over the world gathered to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.A time for all of us to pause and reflect upon God’s love for mankind.A time to remember the love of the Father who so loved you and I,as impossible as it sounds, even before we were born.

That He would give us the best that He had….

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”  John 3:16   KJV

God gave us,you and I,his only Son.

I don’t know about you but when I read that verse it stops me in my tracks. How in the world could I be worth such a price? Doesn’t God remember how awful I was? Has he forgotten that I was unlovable?

Well,actually…..He doesn’t remember that “me”.

A week from now I won’t remember the tie that I wore this past Easter Sunday. I won’t remember the songs that were sung at church. I’ll probably remember only bits and pieces of the sermon I heard. For sure I won’t remember an Easter egg hunt.

But I WILL remember what Easter represents. I WILL remember how I who was once so lost discovered an unimaginable grace one night so long ago.I WILL remember that there is a name that is so different than any other name.A name that causes demons to tremble.A name that causes the angels of heaven to bow down and worship.

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”    Acts 4:12   KJV

Only one name can lead us to eternal salvation.Jesus…what a lovely name.

Be blessed,

Ron

Good Friday And The Debt I Could Never Pay

Sin. Atonement. Payment. Retribution. Debt. Sacrifice.

All of these words and so many more are what I think about today.Truthfully,I think about them every day.Fact of the matter is I came into this world a sinner though I personally had committed no sin.I was a sinner by default all because of one decision by one man many thousands of years ago. When Adam decided he should be in charge of his life and not God, it set into being a force that neither he nor any other human since could handle on their own.A force more powerful then any weapon ever devised by the most brilliant minds.A force that if left unchecked could eventually cause the demise of all civilization. The force of SIN.

We don’t talk much about sin any more in the church. It makes people uncomfortable. It forces us to reflect upon our own spiritual condition and more times than not we do not like what we see.We can’t have people in the church feeling bad about themselves now can we?After all, church is supposed to be a happy place where happy people say happy thing to make others even more happy.Kind of like the church advertisement I saw in the newspaper that said “we promise you will never hear any mention of sin in our services for we want you to be encouraged and lifted up,not burdened with guilt”.

Yet there was a day some 2000 years ago when guilt had to be dealt with.Sin had to be paid for.Your sin and mine. The blood of bulls and goats could never do more then temporarily postpone sin until the following year.Yet postponement wasn’t the answer, only a brief respite until the cycle began again. There had to be a better way,a way that once and for all SIN would be eradicated. That way was Jesus.

John 3:16-17 (NKJV)
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

You see,God had an answer for sin and that answer was His only Son,Jesus Christ.Born of a virgin He was destined to be the payment that sin demanded. He and He alone was chosen to bear the guilt of our sins,a weight that you and I were crumbling beneath.A debt we could never repay. The atonement that a Holy God required. The perfect, sinless sacrifice offered upon a Roman cross.

Beloved,it’s because of Good Friday that you and I have been redeemed from the curse of sin.Because of what took place nearly 2000 years ago I am free, and from where I sit on the front row I am humbled that Almighty God would love a sinner like me so much that He would give His only Son to pay my sin debt.Praise God…praise God…praise God!!

Be blessed this Easter,

Ron
