Christianity…. Detached From the Vine

This morning I was looking forward to service and hearing an encouraging message from God’s Word. Not having been in church for a few weeks due to vacation and other things, it felt good getting ready for church again.

Church is one of those things that I love and it’s been a central part of my life for almost forty years now.I love the Word.I love reading it and hearing again and again the many ways that God is for us and not against us. I love the encouragement I get from God’s word and know that I can go in the strength of that word many days.

I wish I could write that the service was fantastic, that the sermon was inspiring, that the music took me to new heights of worship.I wish I could.Oh,how I wish I could.

But I can’t.Because it was just “OK”.

Actually…it was a carbon copy of nearly every other service.

Forgive me for saying this….but it was boring.

Singing,or praise & worship, accompanied by Meet & Greet.

Offering.

Message.

Prayer.

Go home.

Leave the same way we came. Still longing for encouragement.

Smiling faces,yet no joy.

And before you say to me “hey Ron,did you ever think you’re the problem?”,let me assure you I’ve thought that for a long, long time.

But not any more. I think I finally figured it out.Or perhaps it’s more likely that I am finally ready to accept what the Lord has been saying to me through His word for some time now.

Why is church boring? Why is service almost the same every week? Why are lives never changed, or why are hearts rarely encouraged?

It’s because the Church has detached itself from the Vine.

Consider this from God’s Word:

1 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vine dresser. 2 “Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 “You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. 5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 “If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.   John 15:1-6 NKJV

Why else are our services so fruitless except that the branch (that’s us folks) is no longer attached to the Vine(Jesus)?

We think we have this all figured out don’t we? We model our churches after Wall Street. Our church business plans are nearly indistinguishable from any major corporation in America.Instead of depending upon God we enslave ourselves to debt and interest to build ever larger churches, all the while proclaiming God’s favor upon our efforts.

Oh sure,we have churches that attract thousands every Sunday. Our buildings are often the grandest in town.We have programs that are the envy of any secular program out there. We have developed a system of self reliance second to none.

“Without ME,you can do nothing”! When was the last time we consulted HIM about anything?

We have structured our services to the point that God Himself would have a hard time getting our attention! And the horror of it all is that the church in America doesn’t even notice that God is not even present! How is this possible you ask? It’s because we must follow the script, and the script does not allow time for God to interrupt our programmed services so that He can break our hearts!

Sunday morning Christians who week after week raise their hands as if in humble worship, yet whose Facebook writings from the night before are filled with filth and vulgarity. Detached from the Vine yet still playing the part.”Repeat after me”salvation’s that cannot change the heart.Withered branches cut off from the only Source of Life there is.

We are the church of the Laodiceans, rich and in need of nothing (God). We have created in our own image a form of Godliness, but deny the power thereof. We are ensnared by the very system we have ourselves created and cannot break free of it. And we dare ask ourselves “what about that abundant life Jesus promised us”?

15 “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. 16 “So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. 17 “Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’–and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked– 18 “I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.   Rev 3:15-18 NKJV

Oh God,if only! If only our eyes were opened to allow us to see ourselves even as You see us!

Our feeble attempts to bear fruit of ourselves apart from God are doomed to complete and utter failure. We do not love one another with the love of Christ. We make time only for those in our inner circles, and too bad if you aren’t one of the “chosen ones”because you will be left on the outside looking in.outside-looking-in

Father in heaven; surely there are hungry souls still on this great planet of yours, souls hungry for a touch from on high.A people whose lips have been touched with a coal from the alter of God.Just as Elijah learned there were yet seven thousand who had not bowed the knee to Baal,my heart’s cry is that there are still multitudes yearning for an encounter with you.

Count me in that number.

You Have Not Returned to Me

All of us stumble and fall.

Every one of us.

Saints.

Sinners.

All of us.

Where is God when we stumble and fall? Does He turn a deaf ear to us and say that “you’re on your own”?

As all of us who have stumbled can attest,God is faithful to restore us again and again should we come to Him with a repentant heart.

The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.   Psa 34:18 KJV

But have you ever wondered whether or not you were important enough to the Lord that He would seek you out? Have you ever thought to yourself “am I even worth it”?

I mean,it’s one thing for me to acknowledge my sin and turn to the Lord asking for mercy. As a Christian I know that I must do this if I am to be restored to a right relationship with my Creator.

But what happens if we choose to continue doing that thing that displeases Him? Does the God of the universe wash His hands of us as if to say “well,I guess you will reap the rewards of your actions so you’re on your own”?

All of this brings me to a tragic story in the Old Testament book of Amos that reminds me of how far the Lord will go to recapture our hearts. The story is one that reveals the very nature of God’s heart and His longing for a relationship with His people.

1 Hear this word, you cows of Bashan, who are on the mountain of Samaria, Who oppress the poor, Who crush the needy, Who say to your husbands, “Bring wine, let us drink!”

2 The Lord GOD has sworn by His holiness: “Behold, the days shall come upon you When He will take you away with fishhooks, And your posterity with fishhooks.

3 You will go out through broken walls, Each one straight ahead of her, And you will be cast into Harmon,” Says the LORD.

4 “Come to Bethel and transgress, At Gilgal multiply transgression; Bring your sacrifices every morning, Your tithes every three days.

5 Offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving with leaven, Proclaim and announce the freewill offerings; For this you love, You children of Israel!” Says the Lord GOD.

6 “Also I gave you cleanness of teeth in all your cities. And lack of bread in all your places; Yet you have not returned to Me,” Says the LORD.

7 “I also withheld rain from you, When there were still three months to the harvest. I made it rain on one city, I withheld rain from another city. One part was rained upon, And where it did not rain the part withered.

8 So two [or] three cities wandered to another city to drink water, But they were not satisfied; Yet you have not returned to Me,” Says the LORD.

9 “I blasted you with blight and mildew. When your gardens increased, Your vineyards, Your fig trees, And your olive trees, The locust devoured them; Yet you have not returned to Me,” Says the LORD.

10 “I sent among you a plague after the manner of Egypt; Your young men I killed with a sword, Along with your captive horses; I made the stench of your camps come up into your nostrils; Yet you have not returned to Me,” Says the LORD.

11 “I overthrew some of you, As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, And you were like a firebrand plucked from the burning; Yet you have not returned to Me,” Says the LORD.

12 “Therefore thus will I do to you, O Israel; Because I will do this to you, Prepare to meet your God, O Israel!”

13 For behold, He who forms mountains, And creates the wind, Who declares to man what his thought is, And makes the morning darkness, Who treads the high places of the earth–The LORD God of hosts is His name.   Amos 4:1-13 NKJV  (emphasis mine)

This passage of scripture reveals clearly that our Lord will not just let us go to do as we will, but rather He will continually plead with His children to “return to me”. In other words,it isn’t as easy as we might imagine to “get away from the Lord”because as you can see,God will do whatever He needs to do to get your attention.

Why is that? Is it not because of your worth?

I once heard it said that for any soul to enter into Hell they would have to first get past Jesus, and I believe this to be true. The God who in times past sent armies to oppress His people in order to get them to return unto Him now has sent His only Son Jesus to stand between you and I and eternal separation from Him.

The God who in times past withheld even the rain from heaven to try to get His people to return unto Him now pleads with every soul to accept the Supreme Sacrifice that is His only Son,Jesus Christ as the only Way,the Truth, and the Life.

If you have fallen…get up. If you fall tomorrow…get back up.

You will find One reaching out to you with an unseen hand to pick you up,for He will not leave you broken and desolate. It is not in Him to abandon you in your time of need.

Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the LORD delivers him out of them all.  Psa 34:19 NKJV

He delivers him out of them ALL!

You can return unto Him!

Be blessed,

Ron

Eternal Security

above the clouds

No,I’m not referring to a doctrinal kind of Eternal Security.I’m talking about an Eternal Security that can only be found in the God who reigns from heaven above….

Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?    Isa 66:1 KJV

In times like these we need to know that there is a God who reigns Supreme above any and all that claim to be God.All over the world people’s sense of security has been shattered by the sheer amount of terror that has been unleashed upon the earth. It’s as if there is no safe place to hide. Ah,but there is indeed a hiding place, and it’s in the Eternal Security of God’s love.

In times like these when evil abounds and many are fearful and falling away from the only One who can sustain them,we need to be reassured that our God reigns.Governments do not control Him,neither can they contain Him….. for He alone is God.

Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,              Isa 46:9 KJV

Though the heathen rage against Him,yet He remains ever faithful…the defender of His people. No matter what comes to us in the form of trials or hurts, there is none like unto our God who can comfort us in the midst of the storms. His ear is open unto our cry……

Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,                    Eph 3:20 KJV

If we would just look to Him we would discover One who is able to do the impossible. We would find in Him the answer we so desperately long for.If we would simply bow our hearts before Him we would know that in doing so we have brought Him into the battle!

Who but God can do such things as these?

Be blessed!

Is it Really Racism?

This is not a political post so if that’s what you were looking for you won’t find it here.Neither is it a post about gun control. No,this post is about something that goes deeper than racism. Much deeper.

This is a post about “WHY” people do the things they do,in particular why heinous crimes are committed in the first place.

The recent tragedy in the Charleston South Carolina church is one more reminder that there are those among us who will stop at nothing in their attempts to garner attention to their favorite cause.

Upon hearing the news reports of this act of violence the news media immediately branded this a hate crime.Specifically,a hate crime spawned by the racist mindset of a young man.

Here is where I completely disagree with the masses.

Oh,there can be no doubt that this young man’s mind had been poisoned by racist thoughts.Just as certain is the fact that he planned this murdering rampage to take place in a house of worship in order to get the maximum shock value.

Yet for all of his deliberate actions I believe the media and nearly all Christians who have spoken publicly about this have overlooked one very important thing.

You see, when something of this magnitude takes place society rushes to place a label on it so that by doing so it can be more easily understood. In this case it was immediately branded a hate crime perpetrated by a racist.

But what society, and in particular the media, doesn’t understand is that the root cause of such acts of violence is not born in the bed of racism.

No,racism is but one of many causal factors born out of something much more heinous than racism. Much more damming than hate and bigotry.

SIN

The underlying issue here, the root cause of the “why did this happen” is called SIN.

And it is understandable why SIN is never mentioned in situations like this. For you see we want to,need to,blame someone.

So of course we delve into every detail about the murderer’s life in hopes of uncovering that one detail that will help us make sense of it all.

And that is our undoing. Society today rejects the notion of SIN because to acknowledge that such a thing does exist would be to acknowledge our own SIN,and that just can’t happen, can it?

I mourn with my brothers and sisters who have suffered such needless tragedy and loss at the hands of a young man who by his own volition has thrown his life away.Their pain will never go away.

But let us not forget that racism has been with us as long as hatred, anger, violence, contempt and any other acts of abuse towards others has been around.

They’ve all been right here with us because SIN has been with us. So here’s the real question:

If society cannot fix its problems, and it is obvious it cannot, then what hope do we have?

And the answer is very simple: we have no hope apart from the saving grace of God who sent His only Son to die for our sins.

The government cannot legislate out racism any more than it can eliminate the drug problem. As we pour billions of dollars into one feeble attempt after another to create our own version of utopia on earth, evil marches on unfettered except by the efforts of those committed to a Christlike life.

SIN is a spiritual condition that can only be dealt with at the foot of the Cross. No law or ordinance can destroy it or even hope to control it.

You see, Racism is not our biggest problem.Neither is bigotry or hatred.

The rejection of Jesus Christ however,is.

A “Divine Wind”?

Divine. I’ve always loved that word because it speaks to me of something much higher, much holier than I am. Something beautiful beyond my imagination, something not of this world, supernatural.

Take a look at how the dictionary describes divine:

Full Definition of DIVINE from http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/divine

1

a :  of, relating to, or proceeding directly from God or a god <divine love>

b :  being a deity <the divine Savior>

c :  directed to a deity <divine worship>

That pretty much sums it up in my opinion. That is until the other day when I came upon an article on the Christian News web site about a pastor who has announced that he has received a new definition of the divine. What’s worse is that he attributes this new revelation to God. A “Divine Wind” he calls it.

Seems that GracePointe Church in Franklin, Tennessee has adopted a new stance on the position of allowing homosexuals to not only join their ranks, but also to enjoy all the benefits of membership. That includes all sacraments as well as marriage.

Now, this is not a post about bashing gays. Not at all. In spite of what some in the church say, homosexuality is really no different than adultery, lying, or any other sin.To put it bluntly, any sinful lifestyle we are living in severs our relationship with God and it can only be restored after repenting of our sins.

Christianity 101 there folks.

Beloved, sin is sin, and it will ultimately lead you to eternity separated from God.

Man, and in particular the church, has decided that different sins should be ranked in some kind of order of severity, forgetting the fact that all sin separates us from God.

No, this post is about calling attention to the fact that a man masquerading as a man of God would even dare to stand before a congregation and declare that such a thing is ordained of God Almighty.

This is how far the church has backslidden! This is the depth of depravity that the blood bought church has slipped into.

It is treacherous, it is vile, it is an abomination, and it is an affront to a Holy God.

It is the fruit of those who “preach another gospel” that Paul warned about in his letter to the Galatians.

And most alarming to me is that it seems to be OK with the Christian masses who declare it’s not their responsibility to say anything. Really?

If you take the time to read the article you will better understand how the doctrine of inclusion, while sounding good to the ears, is actually anti-Christ. It serves to scatter the sheep at the expense of gathering the goats.

The pastor of this church was quoted as saying “I am not sure I am right, but I am sure I sense the presence of God, and I know I’m doing my best,” he said. “And I believe before God almighty to this we have been called, and here we stand.”

So let me see if I understand this. You are leading your church in a radical departure away from biblical Christianity, but you’re not sure you’re right? And in the midst of your obvious confusion you are certain that you sense the presence of God?

Am I the only one who sees the deception this man is walking in, who sees the disastrous conclusion to this heresy?

From where I sit on the front row of the church I see someone who has lost his way and to add to it he is leading many hundreds down the same path of destruction.

Please join me in praying for this pastor and the congregation at GracePointe church. They do not need criticism or condemnation. They need a holy deliverance from the blindness that has ensnared them so that they may return to the God of the bible.

As for me, I just want to weep at what is taking place in our churches today.

A Divine Wind?

I’d say it’s Sin in the Camp!

A Follower of Jesus?

What exactly is a “Follower of Jesus”?     Can anyone be a follower?

This morning as I was reading my bible,I came upon the verses below from Luke’s gospel that deal with the topic of following Jesus. And so I got to thinking about this subject and what it really means. And it has prompted me to do some very critical thinking all day today.

Actually,it’s pricked my heart is what it’s done.

I hear a lot about following Jesus. A lot.I suppose every person who goes to church would say they are a follower of Jesus. It’s what church folks do,right? We follow Jesus.

So how do you know a “Follower” when you see one?                way to Jesus

Now there’s a great question isn’t it?

I mean….do they look different than everyone else?

Do they talk differently than everyone else?

Do they act differently than everyone else?

All good questions I think. So lets take a look at what Jesus Himself said about this. After all,He would be the expert on the subject, not me.

23 Then He said to [them] all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.

24 “For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.

25 “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost?

26 “For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His [own] glory, and [in His] Father’s, and of the holy angels.

[Luk 9:23-26 NKJV]

One of the first things we notice here is that if we are to follow Jesus we must do something. Well, right away some are not going to like that because lets face it…we don’t like being told we have to do anything. It’s that pride thing don’t you know.

As a matter of fact the first requirement to be a follower of Jesus is likely to be a major stumbling block to most of us.The words “let him deny himself”immediately causes us to wince in pain at the thought of us,or self, not being the most important thing on the planet.

Ouch.

Funny how that life has a way of distorting our priorities as “Followers” isn’t it? This is especially true of those of us who call ourselves Christian. For example,if you listen to any of the hundreds of con men masquerading as men of God you would think that God exists for one purpose, and that is to serve them.

And yes,I know that some don’t like to hear those things but I’m long past worrying about whether or not I hurt someone’s feelings because I call out their favorite TV rock star preacher for stealing from the sheep and sowing discord among the brethren.

Ouch again.Sorry….couldn’t resist.

How pathetic we must appear to a lost world that is dying and going to Hell if all we can offer them is the same old tired mantra of “sow your best seed now and God will bless you”….Or translated for those who have ears to hear “send me your money so I can get rich at the expense of the needy”.

Why would anyone who can discern even basic biblical concepts think that such a thing is what Jesus meant when He told us to deny ourselves? These are “Followers of Jesus”? These are our examples? God help us.

OK, sorry for the diversion……….back to the topic at hand.

In addition to denying ourselves Jesus then said we were to “take up our cross daily”….Take up our cross? What is that all about?

A lot of people think this means bearing burdens and suffering hardships for the Lord. No doubt there are times when that is the situation we find ourselves in.In fact, when I was a young Christian that was the prevailing sentiment in the church. But there is a deeper meaning if we consider the entire context.

  • What is the purpose of the cross? For one thing,it is an instrument of pain and affliction but more than that,it was an instrument of death and complete and total sacrifice.
  • Jesus said to take up our cross and follow Him. He bore His cross and we must bear our cross and follow Him.
  • So….”taking up your cross” refers to sacrificing your whole life to God, just as Jesus was about to give His life for us. As I mentioned previously, this often involves bearing heavy burdens, but it actually goes far beyond that.
  • It is a total, complete dedication of our life to Him.Our whole life is to be given to His service.

All of which started me thinking this morning about my own track record of following Jesus. And you know what?

I’m doing wonderfully, fantastically, incredibly great at it.No problems here!

NOT!

Deny myself? Really? Me,the guy who wants what he wants when he wants it and has very little patience while I’m waiting on it?

Me?

Here’s what I think. I think if I lived like Jesus has told me to live, which means a sold out, crucified life to Him,I think I would have far less “stuff” and a whole lot more Jesus in my life.

I think I would focus a whole lot more about eternal things than I do my 401K,or terrorism,or the up and down price of a gallon of gas.

If I was living a sold out crucified life I would care more about the hungry and poor among us,rather than which team will win the football game.

So what about you? How does your walk stack up to”deny himself” or “take up your cross”?

Notice any gaps in your life? Anything you need to work on?

To answer an earlier question, followers of Jesus do look, act, and talk differently than everyone else.

Because they understand that their life is not their own,but rather they have committed it all to Jesus.

And Jesus makes all the difference in our lives.

Be blessed,

Ron

“You’ve Never Seen This One….”

That’s what someone told me last night as I was watching the sunset on the beach. I had just commented to a lady who worked at the restaurant and had stopped working to gaze at the sun setting that it seemed kind of silly for a bunch of grownups to be so excited about watching it.Cameras, cell phones, even video cameras set up.People scrambling to get the best spot to take that once in a lifetime shot.I mean, the sun setting happens on a pretty regular basis doesn’t it? You’d think these people had never seen a sunset the way they’re acting!

That’s when the lady turned to me and said “You’ve never seen this one”. Honestly,I was stunned at her reply,or maybe it was that her reply stunned me back to reality. You see, it’s been pointed out to me recently that I am so busy and so consumed with my work that I am no longer a participant in life, but merely an observer. OUCH!

That dear lady had never seen me before yet she did not hesitate to point out to me the various shapes of the clouds and innumerable colors that all but seemed to set the sky on fire.Funny what you miss when it’s often right in front of you, isn’t it?

I’ve thought a lot about that, not being a participant that is. Going through the motions and all.And you know what? It is 100% true. I’ve been going through the motions at such a pace and for so long that I have all but let life leave me behind.Wow!

Life passes us by pretty quickly doesn’t it? Everywhere you turn it seems we are consumed with ourselves to the point of not even realizing that there are others all around us longing for just a little bit of our time and attention.Thinking of that brings this scripture to my mind:

James 4:14 (NKJV) whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

I don’t know about you but that’s a very sobering thing to comprehend. We do not have long upon this earth and as good stewards of the time we’ve been given, why should we sit on the sidelines? Why shouldn’t we be an active participant of the life God has blessed us with?

All of this has given me a renewed sense of the magnitude of blessings that have been given to me.Where sometimes I get so distraught when I’m faced with defeat the better choice is to remember that in the big picture I have won far more than I have lost.

Oh, and that sunset on the beach? This is what I’m talking about….

??????????

And for the record, I was among the ones jockeying for position with all the other “tourists”.

Be blessed,

Ron

A World Gone Mad?

Or are we reaping the effects of man’s efforts to replace God with himself? A world where God is largely ignored and man is in control.

When I was a kid I used to hear the older folks use the expression”this world’s gone to hell in a hand basket”. Back then I used to laugh at such a notion as if it were merely the musing of yet another old fogy whose time has come and gone.

You know what? I’m not laughing anymore.Turn on your TV to watch the aftermath of yet another school shooting and see if you don’t think that civility and order have spiraled out of control.Wars and rumors of more wars.Innocents being slaughtered by the thousands by marauding bands of extremists hell bent on the creation of an Anti-Christ nation where your only choices are submit or die.Lies being told so often by the highest office of governments and corporations that we scarcely even recognize the truth any longer.Right has become wrong and wrong is the new right.Chaos has become the new rule of the land.

And the church remains strangely silent.Oh,we have our “causes” to be sure.I see more participation from churches in the latest effort to raise money for “name the disease” than I do for those who are suffering all across the world. Our churches have become nothing more than social clubs where community organizers attempt to put their spin on the ills of society so they can implement yet another program, thus making the word of God of no effect whatsoever!

Satan has orchestrated his master plan to perfection-and the church remains silent! The early church leaders were accused of trying to turn the city upside down with the gospel of Jesus Christ.Contrast that with the church today that refuses to confront sin but rather has chosen to lie in the bed of adultery and fornication with the devil himself. The new religion of today has at it’s cornerstone the gospel of political correctness which has in turn silenced the church.

Call me delusional, crazy,or whatever else you want to call me but one thing’s for sure and that is we as a society are headed for the darkest period in our history. And for the most part the church is silent. Where is the outrage from the body of Christ? Where are the preachers taking a bold stand and declaring what thus saith the Lord? How is it even possible that the church has backslidden so far that it cannot feel for the lost and desperate? Is this the church that was started in a upper room 2000 years ago? Surely Satan must be celebrating the silence emanating from our pulpits!

The scriptures are very clear about this.

2 Timothy 3:1-5 (NKJV)
1 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come:
2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good,
4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!

Does this not perfectly describe the society in which we live today? On an even broader scale it perfectly describes the world as a whole! Wait…let’s take it up another notch and boldly declare that these verses of scripture might as well be referring to the church!

We have a form of godliness, and that’s about all we have. We have no power, for to receive power we must reject this world system but instead we have joined ranks with it! Indeed, the church has become no different than the world, for they have become inseparable.

It is unfathomable to me that anyone could read these scriptures and not be able to connect the dots.Every single trait mentioned in these few verses perfectly sum up the condition of man’s heart today! We cannot stick our heads in the sand and pretend it isn’t so…the Word of God does not lie.

The church has become one with the world that we are called out of! We have become so lukewarm as to be in danger of being cast away!

I don’t know about you,but I have made my choice.I will not follow the paths of the “religious” who seek to pacify the sinners heart with feel good stories and dreams of grandeur.I refuse to entertain the goats while the sheep die of neglect.I’m going to declare the Word of God while I am still able to do so for the days are not too far off when this privilege will be taken from us.

A World Gone Mad? Or a world reaping the effects of man’s efforts to replace God with himself?

You tell me!

The Power of God’s Word

The word of God is many things to many people. To some it is a large coffee table book with important pictures or news clippings tucked away inside it’s big, heavy covers.

To others it is a book of fantasy and fairy tales intended to pacify the weak of mind and heart. Some even refer to it as nothing more than the history of a blood thirsty nation, Israel.

But what does this word mean to the Christian, and is it really important to continue reading such an old book today? After all, there are Christian bookstores full of books with biblical sounding titles written by modern authors that are surely more relevant, aren’t there?

Well, the bible states in Heb. 4:12 that the word of God “is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Now I don’t know about you, but I have quite a large collection of various study aids, both print and electronic. I have many, many volumes of books from which to draw inspiration or help in understanding a particular verse or chapter.

Yet for all of that, I have only One Book that contains a message that “is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

I am so grateful to have in my possession the Word of Almighty God. To think that He made it possible for man to know Him through His word, yes, even to know His very heart, is sometimes more than I can fathom.I am truly humbled by this fact.

What a mighty and awesome God we serve!

Be blessed, in Jesus name.

Ron
